Peter Pan Review

Peter Pan

(Not the edition I own, don’t have my copy with me but I am hoping to get this very soon)

Title – Peter Pan

Author – J.M. Barrie

Summary from Goodreads

One starry night, Peter Pan and Tinker Bell lead the three Darling children over the rooftops of London and away to Neverland – the island where lost boys play, mermaids splash and fairies make mischief. But a villainous-looking gang of pirates lurk in the docks, led by the terrifying Captain James Hook. Magic and excitement are in the air, but if Captain Hook has his way, before long, someone will be walking the plank and swimming with the crocodiles…

My Thoughts.

5 out of 5 stars.

Peter pan has been a favourite of mines since I can remember. There is just something about Peter that draws you in and refuses to let you go. When I was younger Tinkerbell was one of my favourite characters and she still is my favourite fairy. (Yes I do believe in Fairies. Do you??) Reading Peter Pan again as an adult I realise there is more to the story than the childhood version I grew up with. I understand the story a lot more and it is a wonderful piece of writing.

Reading Peter Pan was really nolstalgic and I was swept away with Peter, Tink and the Darlings as the flew to the Neverland. The Neverland can be perceived differently to each person. To me reading about The Neverland takes me to a place where I feel safe. I love the concept of The Neverland and find that it is a magical pace where the Darling children get to live out their dreams. I do feel sad for Mrs and Mr Darling when they think that the children will be lost and I guess I feel annoyed at Peter for taking the children away from their family. However at the same time I understand why Peter does what he does.

Characters –

Peter Pan – I love Peter Pan, he is fun and full of mischief.

Tinkerbell – Tink is a sassy character and I have always had a soft spot for Tinkerbell, like I said she is my favourite fairy ever.

Wendy – Wendy is a lovely child who holds on to her childhood as much as she can and I really enjoyed her character.

John and Michael – John and Michael are Wendy’s little brothers and they add an extra feature to the story.

Mr and Mrs Darling – The lovable parents of the Darling children.

Nana – Nana is the nurse of the children who just so happens to be a dog. However Nana is very intelligent and I love her in the story and feels she adds slight comedy to the story.

The Lost Boys – I love the Lost boys they are all adorable and add a little extra level to the story in their own way.

Favourite Quotes –

“To die will be an awfully big adventure.”

“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”

“Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.”

“Second star to the right and straight on ’til morning. ”

“When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.”

“Never is an awfully long time.”

“All children, except one, grow up.”

If I could quote the whole book I would.

There you go guys another review. What did you think??

The Narnia Book Tag

Image result for the chronicles of narnia

Hey Folks, Time for a tag post. This time it come in the form of Narnia, which happens to be one of my favourite series. I was tagged by the lovely Clemisreads to do this tag, she is also the creator of The Narnia Book Tag so click the link and check out her post. So I have seen the questions which I love and I have enjoyed answering, Most of which my answers would be Narnia or Harry Potter related however I have tried to include some of my other favourite books/series/characters. Anyway enough rambling and on to the questions.

1- NARNIA: A magical world you would like to visit

This may not come as a surprise but my answers for this has to be Narnia, come on who wouldn’t want to go through a wardrobe into this magical world. Also I would love to go into Harry Potter’s World, how cool it would be to go to platform 9 3/4 and ride the Hogwarts Express. A third world I would love to visit would be Ketterdam. I would love nothing more than a chance to hang out with Kaz and the rest of the Dregs.

2- THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW: A book you find underrated

This is hard because a lot of the books I read have great reviews or have a hype around them. I’m going to say Strings by David Estes. Although it has great reviews I haven’t seen it go around the book community as much as it should. Strings is a gender reversal retelling of Pinnochio set in futuristic times. Seriously if you haven’t read Strings you need to read it asap.

3- THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE: A classic that you love

For this I would have to say Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I love Ms Havasham’s quirkiness and I do feel sorry for her. I also love Pip’s character.

4- THE HORSE AND HIS BOY: A book you picked up without knowing what it was about

The Midnight Society by Rhonda Sermon. I went in to this only knowing the blurb. it turned out to be a fantastic book about time travel that I adore.

5- PRINCE CASPIAN: A sequel you loved

Well this isn’t a surprise but Narnia and Harry Potter have some pretty awesome sequels. another couple I would choose would be A Series of  Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. ( That woman is a genius) and finally The Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan.

6- THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER: A quest you’d like to be a part of

Another one where Narnia and Harry Potter could be my answers. Like I said though I will include some other great books with some pretty awesome quests. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan and A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.

7- THE SILVER CHAIR: A book you didn’t expect to love
This might surprise people after the 5 star review I gave it but I would have to say that I wasn’t expecting to love and cherish Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. I think the reason I didn’t think I would like it was because of the hype surrounding it however I fell hard with that book and I still keep thinking about it.
8- THE LAST BATTLE: The perfect ending to a series you loved
Other than the other two books I keep on saying I would have to pick The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo however I would change one tiny detail in the ending (not saying incase I spoil it for any one.)

9- THE PEVENSIES: A siblinghood of friendship you would like to be a part of
Well the obvious answers would be the Pevensies and the Weasleys. I mean they are both pretty amazing. If I had to choose another I would say The Baudelaire Siblings, I love how they are always there for each other and stick together to get themselves through the heartache they encounter.
10- EUSTACE SCRUBB: A character who grew on you
For this I choose Will Traynor from Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.
11- MR TUMNUS: Your favourite mythical creature
I would say a Phoenix. There is just something about a Phoenix that draws me to them, maybe it is because they are reborn and rise from the ashes and also they are beautiful creatures.

12- CASPIAN: A character with regal qualities
Kell from A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab and Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.
13- REEPICHEEP: a loyal character
For this I would choose The Dregs Crew from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Loyalty is a big thing for Kaz.

14- THE WARDROBE: your favourite hideout/place to read
That would be in my bedroom with my fluffy blanket and a good cup of coffee or tea.
Well there you go folks, all my answers. What did you think?  feel free to comment
I tag everyone to do this because it was so much fun and I think you would all enjoy answering the questions and I would love to see your answers.
Happy Reading Everyone!

The Girl On The Train Review

The Girl on the Train

Title – The Girl On The Train

Author – Paula Hawkins

Publisher/Published – Random House/2015

Genre – Thriller

Summary from Goodreads –

Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. ‘Jess and Jason’, she calls them. Their life – as she sees it – is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy.

And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough.

Now everything’s changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar.

Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train…

My Thoughts

3.5 stars out of 5 stars

Where to begin with this review. it took me ages to read and finish this book. I had quite of a love/hate relationship with it. At first when I started reading this book I was really enjoying the story. The story started really strong and I was engrossed in what happened next. I really was enjoying Rachel’s point of view and Megan’s was okay too but she started to get boring afer a while.

I read the first half really quickly but then I found the story started to dip and I lost interest really quickly so I put the book down for a while. One of the reasons I lost interest was the introduction of Anna’s point of view. I really disliked Anna and got really fed up with her constant moaning and whining, she was always Tom this and Evie that and it got really tiresome.

After some encouragement fro a friend who finished the bok and ended up loving the ending I started to read it again. To my surprise I loved the last third of the story, it really picked up and I was compelled to keep readng and find out exactly what happened. Thats when the twists and turns came in. I had already chose a person I thought was guilty and I turned out to be right so it was slightly predicable. What I didn’t expect was the back story behind the particular character and how a web of lies was spun. The ending was amazing and I certainly wasn’t expecting what happened to happen.

Rachel – I enjoyed reading Rachel’s point of view and I think the story would have been fine judt coming from Rachel.

Megan – I enjoyed Megan’s point of view but then it got a bit robotic in the middle and then picked up nearer the end again.

Anna – Where do I even start with Anna? She annoyed me so much and didn’t add anything to the story until nearer the end. I got annoyed with they way she acted higher up than everybody and like she was better than everyone else. She did slightly redeem herself nearer the end but she is one of my least favourite character.

Tom – Tom was a predicable character and I didn’t like him either. it got worse as the story went on and especially at the end.

Scott – I felt sorry for Scott at times and what he had to go through but nearer the end I started to dislike him.

There you go guys, another review for you. What did you think?

Deweys 24hr Readathon

Hour 21!!

Come on it is hour 21 already. This readathon has gone so fast. I ended up falling asleep for 8 hours. I only wanted to sleep for a couple of hours but as a tradtition for me I fell asleep for most of the night. I am still having so much fun participating even though I won’t read as much as I thought. But I’m okay with that. Im continuing with this book which I am adoring at the moment, it is so good and really captivating.

It was beautifully captivating and so is this book. I have read 15% so far (reading on my kindle) and I’m captivated. I feel like I will have this devoured in a few hours.

Ill be back again with another update soon 🙂

How are you guys getting on?? Comment your progress 🙂

Dewey’ 24hr Readathon TBR

So Saturday the 22nd October is an exciting day. Why you may ask? It’s Dewey’s 24hr Readathon of course. I love taking part in Deweys and seeing how much I can read in those 24 hours. I have participated a few times and I enjoy getting the chance to just read. For me in the UK the readathon starts at 1pm which always works out great for me because I get the morning to prepare, plus I have to work on saturday for 3 hours in the morning so it doesn’t affect my readathon. So I have come up with a TBR that I will try to stick with but knowing me I won’t stick to it haha. I have also chosen a big list because I like having options. I have included long novels, short novels and short stories and one audiobook. On to the TBR :

The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories by Tim Burton.

I chose this after seeing it on ich lese TBR for the redathon. This will be a re-read for me but after seeing it I knew I had to add it to my TBR. It’s a short read so it will be good to break up my larger reads however I may end up reading it all at once because it’s a great read.

Pages – 115

Victoria by Daisy Goodwin

I chose this because I recently watched the TV series and I completely fell in love with it. So when I saw this I just had to read it so what better time that Dewey’s!

Pages – 352

Travel Glasses by Chess Desalls

I have chose this as I have an audiobook copy so this will be great for when I can’t sit down and read. For when I do housework or other adult tasks haha.

Pages – 242 (7 hrs and 9 mins)

Sinful Cinderella by Anita Valle

Another shorter story here. I love anything that twists a typical fairytale so I am really excited for this.

Pages – 150

The Jewel by Amy Ewing

This has been on my normal TBR for ages. So better Dewey’s than never.

Pages – 362

The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton

Okay so I am slightly optimistic with this choice however I hope to at least read 200+ pages during the readathon.

Pages – 849

Well there you go guys my TBR, what do you think?? Anyone participating?? Let me know, we can cheer each other one.

Happy Reading

The Sunshine Blogger Award.

Hey Guys. Another post for you all and this is quite and exciting one!! I was nominated by Jasmine over at How useful it is for The Sunshine Blogger award. Thank you so much Jasmine, make sure you guys check out her blog, its pretty awesome.

  • Answer the 11 questions from the nominator.
  • Nominate 11 blogs.
  • Ask them 11 questions.

Jasmine’s Questions and My Answers.

1. Does words come easy for you when you start to write a blog post or book review?

A. For me it depends if I am in the right frame of mind when I start writing. I can sometimes struggle with getting what I’m thinking onto the screen. I usually write down my reviews or blog posts before I type them up and I find this helps alot.

2. How do you manage your time? Reading, Working, Commenting, Blogging and Life?

A. Well recently I haven’t been managing my time great because I stopped blogging for a while. But I am setting aside two days where I hope to post. I am hoping to post more than twice a week but I am starting small and working my way up.

3. Do you like to travel? Sightseeing?

A. I do love to travel and I love going on holiday but I haven’t been travelling in a while. I love sightseeing and like going in tours or to museums.

4. What book are you currently reading?

A. At the moment I have three books I am currently reading which are; A Gathering of Shadows by V.E Schwab, Carrie by Stephen King and Isle of Winds by James Fahy.

5. Do you carry a book with you everywhere you go?

A. Yes I do, I either have a book or my kindle with me. I might never get time to read it when I’m out but you never know so I make sure I always have something to read.

6. What is your favourite colour?

A. At the moment I have more than one favourite colour. My favourites just now are Black, Blue, Pink and Purple.

7. Do you do adult colouring?

A. Yes I do, aside from my obsession with books I have an adiction to Adult Colouring books. I have gathered quite a collection and keep buying more. I love a night coming home from work and relaxing by colouring for a couple of hours. I find it also helps when I am stressed or have anxiety.

8. Do you go into restaurants judging by the look on the outside or reccommendation from friends?

A. I don’t usually judge by the outside, I will try most places once and ig I lile them I go back. I also take into account what friends and family though when they were there.

9. What is your second favourite after reading?

A. Adult Colouring ofcourse!!

10. Do you fall asleep when reading?

A. Yes all the time. I used to be able to stay up late reading but recently I read like 5 pages and I fall asleep. I usually read my kindle at night because I don’t have to have my light on. Only downside is when you fall asleep and the kindle falls on my face. I’m sure I’m not the only one that happens to.

11. Who is your book crush?

A. Ohh that is a hard question because I have a few but my top three are:

1. Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.

2. Kell from A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab.

3. The Darkling from The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.
